About the Mitsubishi Motors brand:

Mitsubishi Is synonymous to perfect characteristics – in races, which subject both technology and pilots to a major endurance test, in heavy urban traffic or on highways. These characteristics are typical for all Mitsubishi models as well as for various life-styles.

The birth of the brand

Mitsubishi Motors history was started more than 100 years ago, in 1870, at that time a young entrepreneurial Japanese, Iataro Iwasaki, a serf of his feudal lords, decided to split and establish his own transportation company, which was named Tsukumo Shokai. Iwasaki designed the logo of the company by using the crest of his family - which represented a set of three diamonds – and the coat of arms of the Tosa clan, representing a set of three oak leaves. As a result, Iwasaki designed the predecessor of today’s company logo: three diamonds, touching in a single focal point. Iwasaki decided in 1875 to change the name of the company and named it Mitsubishi, which means “three diamonds” in Japanese. Since then, all companies, which emerged out of the original company, bear the name of Mitsubishi. The final version of the logo was registered in 1914.

From Model A to MME

The first transport vehicle by Mitsubishi, Model A (a copy of Ford T) was produced in 1917, and the prototype of the first truck – a year later. The Mitsubishi Aircraft, which manufactured the Mitsubishi MC-1, was established in 1928. Next followed the creation of the first bus in 1932 (FUSO B-46). Today, there are more than 35 individual Mitsubishi companies, which manufacture everything – from ships, aircraft and bridges to fuels, gas, plastics and synthetic fibres, from electronic components and space shuttle software to motor vehicles. The affiliate, which is engaged in the production of motor vehicles, was transformed in 1970 into an independent company - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC). Today, MMC has production facilities in more than 30 companies and provides sales and after-sale services in more than 170 countries. The Mitsubishi Motors Europe (MME) was founded in 2002, and its main line of business is to coordinate sales in Europe.

By using the legendary Pajero Evolution in the Paris-Dakar marathon race, Mitsubishi emerged as the first car maker in the world, which participated – and won – such a demanding contest with a conceptual vehicle. The Pajero model is also the only SUV born in a professional sports environment, which was made commercially available, and which has eight victories in the Paris-Dakar Race and four world titles in the FIA cross-country championship under its belt.

The pride of the Japanese origin of the brand is superbly highlighted in the newest products, matching the standards of contemporary Japanese design, fashion and architecture – the emotion and style emitted by Colt and Grandis provide sufficient evidence. At the same time, it is exactly these rich Japanese traditions of craftsmanship precision that are embedded in the foundation of the exclusive quality of the new serial models like Outlander, in which the leisure charm of the interior co-exists with perfect dark-wood linings and impressive accents like the mechanical clock in the dashboard. The same also applies to the modern technologies, placed in service of the company’s customers. The intelligent stability control system and the electronically controlled distributor of braking force, which are offered in the 2003 Pajero model, once again served as a norm for vehicles of the same class.

The recently expanded family of the Mitsubishi Lancer is one more source of brand pride. The family consists of four vehicles of different classes, which have common characteristics and express the vision of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation of the company’s future. The expansion of the model range of Mitsubishi follows the implementation of the “Global Project”, as it is referred to by the car manufacturer, which project includes the launch of the completely renewed Lancer family. The beginning was marked by the four-door Lancer Sports Sedan, which was presented for the first time in this country during in 2007 at the motor show in Plovdiv. In the autumn of 2008, the family was enriched with the new version of the iconic Lancer Evolution and with the new member of the Lancer family - Lancer Sportback.

From the day it was founded, Mitsubishi has been characterized by its original engineering and entrepreneurial spirit. Today, the company continues to build its future on this tradition.
